Stephen Richer is the elected Maricopa County Recorder in Phoenix, Arizona. His office of 150 full-time employees is responsible for recording public documents, voter registration and voter list maintenance, and early voting administration in Maricopa County – the fourth-largest county and second-largest voting jurisdiction in the United States. Stephen regularly appears as a commentator on local and national television, including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and ABC, and he has written over 100 articles for publications such as CNN.com, Forbes, Newsweek, National Review, and The Arizona Republic. Stephen has received many accolades for his public service including: Arizonan of the Year, 2021 (The Arizona Republic); Republican Politician of the Year, 2021 (The Phoenix New Times); Public Lawyer of the Year, 2022 (Maricopa County Bar Association); and Leader of the Year, 2023 (Arizona Capitol Times). Prior to his election as Recorder, Stephen worked as a lawyer and businessperson. He received his J.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago, his B.A. from Tulane University, and is completing his Ph.D. at Arizona State University. Stephen is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Civil Society Fellowship, a Partnership of ADL and The Aspen Institute, and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
